"this exhibition is dedicated to the recent works of sam francis: paintings, gouaches and acrylics on paper. Among the american abstract painters of the post-war period, sam francis is undoubtedly the one who maintained the most privileged relations with france where He lived for ten years. He arrived in Paris in 1950. He attended the Fernand Léger Academy for several months in the company of other young American painters. Sam Francis became friends with the Canadian painter Riopelle, who introduced him to Nina Dausset to organize her first personal exhibition. Georges Duthuit wrote the preface to the catalog of the exhibition at the Galerie Rive Droite. Other meetings punctuated her first years in Paris: Shirley Jaff, Pierre Schneider, Bram Van Velde, Michel Tapié, who invites him to participate in group exhibitions as another art.
