We offer for sale this elegant modernist chest of drawers, certified nf-ameublement, gold medalist 1978, remarkable for its compact size and its carefully book-matched flamed cherry veneer. Designed at the turn of the 1960s/70s, this model reflects the “neo-scandinavian” shift adopted by many french workshops: refined silhouette, weightless volume thanks to the added base and constant attention to functionality. The side uprights visually extend the legs, creating a rigorous architectural frame while the low spacer stiffens the whole. The front is orchestrated according to an asymmetrical composition: on the left, three deep drawers mounted on wooden slides; on the right, a single leaf leaves a large modular compartment. The handles, carved in the solid wood then chamfered, offer a comfortable grip without breaking the purity of the lines. The joint presence of the two labels “qualité meuble - médaille d'or 1978” and “nf meuble-212” indicates french production supervised by national labeling organizations active in the 1970s and 1980s. These pieces of furniture were often manufactured in regions historically linked to french cabinetmaking: franche-comté, vendée, aube, or vosges. The “nf meuble” label (afnor standard, code 212) was generally awarded to semi-industrial productions of quality furniture, meeting high standards of solidity, safety, and finish. As for the “qualité meuble - médaille d'or 1978” label, it rewarded productions distinguished in national competitions. In short, the quality and standardized marking of this piece indicate high-end mass-produced furniture, produced in france in a controlled industrial context. -- dimensions (cm): 70 (h) X 109.5 (w) X 46 (d).
