Print 'Die Gefangenen' – Maria Schneider, 1973

A compelling print in black titled 'Die Gefangenen' (The Prisoners). A large profile with a wide-open eye gazes at a dark, tower-like cage in which faces can be seen behind bars, while a crowd presses in at the bottom. Titled and signed Maria Schneider in pencil below the image, with a date (probably 1973). Worked with fine, dense hatching. Described as an etching; a clear plate mark is not visible in the photos, so another printing technique is not ruled out. Suits a modern, industrial or eclectic interior, a study or library. Lovely in a sleek black frame. Good condition: the paper is clean and lightly toned; a small spot at lower right (photo 6). No tears or folds visible.
