Lamp in the shape of a horse's head, two lamps. Made of solid bronze and marble. France. Mid 20th century. 77x40 cm. It is probably a maison jansen lamp. Maison jansen/house of jansen is a parisian interior design agency founded in 1880 by the dutchman jean-henri jansen. Jansen is considered the first truly global design company. From the beginning, maison jansen has combined traditional furniture with the influences of new trends. The company paid great attention to historical research, through which it tried to balance customers' desires for useful and often impressive living spaces. Within ten years the company had become a major buyer of european antiques, and in 1890 it founded the galerie des antiques as a separate business which also bought and sold antiques to jansen's clients and competitors.
