Description
An unusual and sculptural, hammered brass umbrella stand by egidio casagrande, italy ca' 1950's. Done in an elegant, brutalist style. Special object with hand-carved relief. Good vintage condition. A dent visible in photo. Beautiful weathering. Colorful whole. A quick note about the artist: " he worked in brass and copper. He was born in borgo valsugana, italy, in the northern province of trento (august 28, 1911), and died there (june 11, 1962). At thirteen he was apprenticed in the workshop of luigi taddei, specializing in the production of iron and copper. In 1937 he moved to milan where he opened a workshop for the production of copper objects, but after a few years returned to his village. His company grew and at one point he had about a hundred workers and apprentices. He made sculptures for public places. He worked with hollywood films such as ben hur, the ten commandments, and the fall of the roman empire, that were filmed in italy.".
