Louis Seize folding buffet 18th century

An 18th-century folding buffet made during the (late) Dutch Louis XVI period around 1790-1800. The buffet is constructed from oak and mahogany wood, veneered with, among others, satinwood, figured maple, and mahogany. It also features a variety of details and inlays of Bahia rosewood, ebony, rosewood, amaranth, boxwood, and/or holly wood. The front is decorated with two narrow and one wide lacquer panel featuring oriental figures, buildings, and landscapes. The long surfaces on the angled corner posts are black lacquer, while the other surfaces are veneered with ebony. The lacquer panels have the expected craquelure and worn appearance. The fold-out top contains two glass/plate racks. The drawers on either side can be pulled out to enlarge the work surface. The dovetailed drawers have sliding mahogany lids, under which there is a green upholstered compartment division for storing cutlery, napkin rings, candles, etc. Behind the central door, which turns on the original pivots, there is a single shelf. The buffet stands on square tapered legs with a projection at the top and a brass ball foot at the bottom. The brass (oval) keyholes on the door and drawers are decorated with, among other things, pearl borders, bows, and garlands. The locks are original and have a working key. The solid oak back panel is fixed with hand-forged square nails. Throughout the piece, there are old, well-executed restorations to the veneer and the expected, non-distracting signs of use consistent with its age. The entire buffet has beautiful warm contrasting colours and a lovely satin sheen, making it an absolute enrichment for any interior! Dimensions: 100H X 127W X 56D cm.
