Introducing te extremely rare model lc/bd-01-a console/desk by balkrishna doshi and le corbusier for mills owners association, ahmedabad c. 1960. The desk, made of solid teak, was originally designed by indian architect b.v doshi under the supervision of le corbusier for the mills owners association building in ahmedabad. But this console/desk was also produced by the chandigarh workshop in the name of le corbusier and used for the hospital building in chandigarh. As they were hand made in very low numbers, these desk have become highly sought after and a true collectors piece. The teak wood was originally stained black as a protective measure and for easier cleaning for usage in the university hospital or university restaurants. This particular piece has its original patina, and is in very good condition! The elegant legs remind of the ventilator shutters le corbusier designed for chandigarh buildings, whereas the leveled top is made in a more brutalist style. A striking combination which makes this minimalistic desk, a well designed masterpiece. Appears in the literature: “le corbusier, pierre jeanneret: chandigarh, india, ” galerie patrick seguin, pp. 248 – 249, 288 and “le corbusier, pierre jeanneret: the indian adventure, ” touchaleaume and moreau, p. 572. Provenance: amedabad, textile mill’s association circa 1960s.
