This wall panel consists of a significant ceramic plaque set in a simple flat-profile solid wood frame. The work features a bas-relief treatment highlighted by deep incised lines in the material. The motif depicts a highly stylised human face, deconstructed according to the geometric codes of the Cubist movement (simultaneously overlaying a frontal and profile view). The raw aesthetic of the composition is enhanced by the application of a dark glaze, a nuanced anthracite grey with metallic reflections, technically imitating the appearance of cast iron or oxidised lead. This composition is fully in line with the revival of post-war art ceramics, heavily influenced by the works of Pablo Picasso at the Madoura workshop (Vallauris). The art of the ceramic wall panel allowed artists to explore the boundary between sculpture and painting. This type of representation, blending primitivism and geometric abstraction, is highly representative of the modernist and brutalist decoration of the second half of the 20th century. Condition report: Very good overall condition. The ceramic plaque is intact (no visible cracks or chips). The wooden frame shows a natural patina and discreet signs of use typical for its age. This work, with its highly graphic profile, will serve as a strong visual focal point, structuring the wall of a contemporary, brutalist, or "Mid-Century Modern" interior.
