Large landscape vase in ceramic – Attributed to Montigny-sur-Loing – 36 cm

A complete work of art: A magnificent large square vase in glazed ceramic, entirely adorned with a wooded landscape unfolding on its four sides. Its elongated silhouette with rounded corners frames a particularly detailed panoramic composition: large trees, streams, meadows, rustic fences, flowers, and small figures punctuate a bright horizon. The deep greens, turquoise blues, browns, and cream shades are worked under a shiny glaze, with a free and expressive pictorial touch. An attribution to a workshop in Montigny-sur-Loing has been proposed by an auctioneer. The naturalistic treatment of the landscape evokes the Barbizon school and certain French productions from the late 19th or early 20th century. In the absence of a signature or readable manufacturer’s mark, this attribution remains to be confirmed. Height: 36 cm. Width: 17 cm. Depth: 12 cm. Weight: 2.2 kg. Overall good condition considering its age. Wear to the gilded netting, small chips and abrasions around the opening, as well as signs of use under the base. Some punctuations and irregularities in the glaze are also visible. With its generous format and enveloping decor, this vase will naturally find its place on a console, a sideboard, or in a collector's interior.
