Early edition of the Spoke-Back two-seater sofa designed by Borge Morgensen (1914-1972) for Fritz Hansen. Made in its second year of production, in December 1963, this early version was sold by Fritz Hansen at the time with the slogan “The most Danish of all sofas.” Borge Mogensen took his inspiration for this sofa from a French chaise lounge and an English daybed. Loosening the strings creates a bed (see photos). This design, which can be placed freely in the room, was well received at the Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition in 1945. The sofa was far ahead of its time and was not put into production until 1962. The condition is very good due to restoration and a new layer of lacquer. The beech wood has color differences due to age and use which also gives this sofa its charm. The fabric was once renewed with green rib fabric. The rib fabric is still very good and has therefore been cleaned and re-impregnated by us. The webbing (under the seat) has been renewed by us. Dimensions: h x w x d = 86 x 160 (unfolded 197 cm) x 77 cm and the seat height is 44 cm. This is a rare original version from December 1963. Marked: Fritz Hansen, December 1963, traceable the label with number 1263 (twelfth month, 1963). Source: book Borge Mogensen, pages 94, 95, 96 and 97.
