Painted Folk Art Bridal Chest 1825

A unique painted bridal chest from southern Germany. The chest has a very rustic appearance and displays plenty of character. It is painted with floral decorations and a love saying with the wedding date (1825). The paint is quite worn, giving it a highly decorative look. The chest is in neat, but used condition. There are occasional traces of old woodworm, which have of course been checked and treated. It was customary in the past to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were later placed in a state room on the farm, which was only rarely used for distinguished guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history. 54cm high, 111cm wide, 54cm deep.
