Joseph Mathieu bistro chairs for Multipl's

Rare set of six bistro chairs by Lionel Joseph Mathieu for Multipl's. Circa 1940 French made. Veneered wood seats. Visible welds. Length: 40 cm, Depth: 40 cm, Height: 80 cm. Excellent condition. The earliest versions have weld marks that are absent on later models. The first versions of the Multipl's chairs had two backrest slats forming a "V"; it was only from 1935 onwards that these were replaced by a single, wider slat. Around 1945, the backrest frame was made of round tubing to reduce costs while increasing its strength.
