Large oval silver-plated metal platter by Wiskemann (Belgium - Brussels)

Large oval silver-plated Wiskemann platter with a gadrooned and reeded shell motif. It is in excellent condition, with no signs of silver plating loss and retaining a beautiful shine. The Wiskemann company (a Belgian equivalent of Christofle in France) is a Brussels-based silver and goldsmith manufacturer, founded in 1872 by Otto-Léonard Wiskemann. The son of a family of German goldsmiths dating back to the 17th century, he settled in Belgium after training in Germany, Switzerland, and Paris. The company distinguished itself with its use of the then-new electroplating technique, made possible by Gramme's recent invention of direct current production. Dimensions: 45 X 33 cm.
