Extendable wooden bookends

Nice wooden bookend. I can't say if the décor is marquetry or painted. It's quite difficult to see with the naked eye (for me anyway...). It is in good condition. Just a small piece of veneer that is missing on one side and a nail that lifts the wood a little (see photos). I don't have a clear idea of his age. Intuitively I would say between the 1920s and the 1940s... In any case it is a nice object.
