This vintage set brings together four glazed stoneware bottles, all with a curved silhouette and narrow neck, but each surface tells a different story: shades ranging from straw yellow to deep rust brown, with drips and firing variations typical of high-fired artisanal production. The glaze, applied unevenly, reveals bare terracotta in places, particularly at the bases of the bottles, where the marks of turning and ground firing are clearly visible. These irregularities, far from being defects, are the very signature of traditional stoneware, fired at high temperatures in wood or coal kilns. This type of bottle, once used for transporting and preserving liquids (wine, cider, spirits), was produced in many French pottery centres in the 19th century. Their robust shape and waterproof glaze made them preferred containers before the widespread use of industrial glass. Together, they now form a decorative set with a raw charm, highly sought after for a country-style or rustic-chic display.
