Pair of armchairs with a sculptural and assertive design by Maison Jansen, made around 1970, in a neoclassical modernist style emblematic of the famous Parisian house. Bent chrome-plated metal frame forming a fluid and balanced X-shaped base, topped with curved arms and uprights adorned with stylized tips. Adjustable feet that can be rotated 360 degrees. The slightly curved armrests extend the curve of the backrest, while ornamental details (center rosette, turned tips) highlight the quality of workmanship specific to Jansen. The seat and backrest are stretched with wide straps of dark brown/black patinated leather, secured by refined lateral lacing, providing comfort and flexibility. With this Savonarola model inspired by the curule seats of Roman Antiquity, Maison Jansen combines historical references and contemporary design with great mastery. Combining classic eclecticism and decorative rigor, serving the most prestigious interiors of the 20th century. 🔎 A worn leather strap that can easily be mended if needed. Normal leather wear and tear, and the structure is in perfect condition.
