Ghashghaï rug decorated with medallion decorated, ancient model, after 1900, tossing, 125 cm wide by 217 cm long, wool on wool of the best quality, native to iran in beautiful condition. The colors, coral on midnight blue contrasting with the white are superb and bright, and the drawing of a beautiful complexity, a large medallion, placed on a dark field, receives a multitude of animal motifs and stylized plants. The border is patterned with stylized and elongated oak leaves, pricked with carnation flowers, placed in the corners of the drawing running all over the border, symbolizing water or eternity all around. Four medallions depicting the decoration of the cross with figures of four pairs of "kotchaks" (ram horns) reminiscent of the patté cross (decoration of the eastern christian carpets) are placed in the corners. These rugs are knotted in the shiraz region located near the ancient persepolis that gave its name to persia, today, iran. Shiraz is in fars province where the ghashghaï tribes reside and produce carpets under the two apelations, shiraz or ghashghaï. Dimensions: width: 125 cm (49 inches) X length: 217 cm (85.5 in) - thickness: 1 cm. This carpet has been cleaned professionally and environmentally.
