Danish teak table lamp with flared methacrylate shade 1960s

This table lamp reflects Danish Scandinavian design from the 1960s, built in solid teak and moulded methacrylate. The shade has a flared, pagoda-like shape, on a square base with rounded corners, made from a single piece of opaline methacrylate with a uniform wall thickness, and is the lamp's dominant visual element. A transparent methacrylate disc rests on the stem as a support point, from which four thin brass rods emerge; each rod ends in a small turned teak cylinder that holds the lower edge of the shade, with the brass almost hidden inside this support. The base is a solid block of teak, carved with a concave neck in the same piece of wood, with no added parts. The combination of a sculptural methacrylate shade with a solid teak base reflects the mix of new industrial materials and traditional cabinetmaking techniques that defined much of Scandinavian lighting of this era. Its compact size is suitable for a bedside table, reading corner or study console, where the geometric shade and carved wooden base can be appreciated at eye level.
