Oil on canvas sailboats

Regatta with coloured sails, oil on canvas from the studio of a contemporary painter. A dynamic and lively composition depicting a sailing scene on a river or an inland body of water bordered by trees. Three sailboats stand out in the centre of the composition, their raised sails forming a rhythmic play of triangles: a large cream-white sail in the foreground, a terracotta-red sail in the centre, and a third sailboat with white sails in the background. The hulls and their reflections dissolve into the shimmering water of the foreground, treated in broad horizontal patches blending greens, pinks, and pearly whites. In the background, a fringe of dark trees and a dramatic sky with grey, ochre, and pink clouds create a contrasting and dynamic backdrop. The texture is generous and assertive, built with broad flat and overlapping brush strokes — particularly visible in the treatment of the reflections and the sky — in a palette mixing sage and emerald greens, brick reds, off-whites, and touches of powder pink. The tight framing on the sails and the freedom of the gesture give the whole piece a tension between figuration and embraced abstraction.
