19th-century gilt bronze fireplace handle in the Napoleon III style. It features rich ornamentation with openwork and symmetrical motifs, including scrolls, stylized foliage, and floral elements. The ends are topped with decorative finials in the shape of carved urns or torches. It served to protect the front of a fireplace, preventing embers and ashes from spreading while adding a refined decorative touch to the entire fireplace. Heavily used with minor defects.
