Stellar faceted glass bowl by Alessandro Mandruzzato (Murano, Italy, 1970s). Made of very thick & heavy blue glass encased in a transparent glass halo (Sommerso technique). Honeycomb diamond faceted pattern on the exterior and flat cut polished top. The faceted glass catches and reflects the light beautifully. Great design & high quality. Striking and highly decorative example of classic mid-century art glass. Can be used as a display piece on any table. Very large model (usually the ones offered on the market are smaller). Diameter: 15.5 cm; height: 7.5 cm. Quite heavy: 1.5 kg. Very good vintage condition, light wear consistent with age and use at the bottom. "Sommerso" (Italian for ''submerged'') is a technique developed in Murano in the 1930s which became very popular in the 1950s-70s. The result is a glass with contrasting colours that is commonly cased by a transparent layer.
