Old oil painting on canvas signed lucien félix henry, second half of the 19th century. Landscape woman returning from the woods. Dimensions: 54.8x43 cm. Signed lower left. Lucien félix henry (1850-1896) was a french painter attached to the barbizon school. He arrived in paris in 1867 to follow the courses of violet-le-duc and then those of fine arts. To earn a living, he served as a model for the famous painter jean-léon gérôme. He painted a lot during this period and specialized in landscape painting. A socialist militant, he was an active member during the paris commune. In 1872, he was imprisoned and sentenced to death at the age of 22, he was finally deported to new caledonia for 7 years. He then moved to australia as a professor of fine arts, painter and sculptor where he acquired some notoriety before returning to france in 1891. In good condition. Neat and well protected shipment.
