Jean lurçat (1892-1966). Rare earthenware plate with enameled decoration representing a black rooster on an ocher background and green border. Mention on the reverse "drawing j. Lurçat saint-vicens ne". Circa 1960. This plate decoration featuring jean lurçat's famous rooster as the central element of the work is rare and goes a little outside of the classic production that we are used to seeing. Indeed, the green plant frieze which surrounds the plate and this central calligraphed rooster are not common. Also note that the yellow used was applied over several layers of ocher, giving it a very special vibration. The artist worked throughout his life with very evocative symbols. The rooster (herald of dawn, the sun, symbol of life) represented here, is the allegory of the resistance which he embodied during the war. We find this symbol in many of his creations (tapestries, cardboard, ceramics, etc...). Jean lurçat, a utopian artist, expresses and invents through his symbols and vibrant colors an ideal world thus denouncing the atrocities of war. The plate is in very good general condition considering its year of production. No accident or damage to report. Dimension: diameter: 25cm cocolis accepted.
