Bring timeless charm and sophisticated character to your interior with this exceptional pair of extendable brass wall candle holders, dating from the second half of the 19th century. Crafted in richly detailed brass with elegant lion heads, classical rosettes and accordion-style arms, these sconces were likely part of a well-appointed bourgeois home – perhaps above a piano, in a private library, or mounted beside a bed in a refined chambre. Each piece features a scissor mechanism that extends smoothly up to 42 cm from the wall, allowing the candlelight to be positioned just where you want it. The sconce arms can be folded back compactly when not in use. The wall plate is adorned with beautifully cast floral motifs, and the candleholder cup fits standard taper candles (2 cm inner diameter). One of the sconces is discreetly marked with the initials “AD” on the base plate – a possible reference to the original owner or private commission. In very good vintage condition, carefully cleaned to reveal the warm tones of aged brass while preserving traces of patina and history. ! A rare matching set. ! - Dimensions (per sconce): Wall plate: 17.5 cm (height) X 7.5 cm (width) Folded depth from wall: 16 cm. Fully extended depth from wall: 42 cm. Height of candle holder: 16 cm. Inner diameter of candle socket: 2 cm. Combined weight: approx. 960 grams.
