Bohemian Romana Ashtray by Hana Machovska for Mstisov Glassworks, 1960s

This magnificent glass product was designed by Hana Machovska as part of the Romana line for the Mstislav glass factory, a renowned Czech glassmaker with a history dating back to the 16th century. The Mstislav factory became part of the Sklo Union when it was founded in 1948. The glass features a pink colour on one side, honey yellow in the centre, and blue on the other side. It dates from the 1950s and 1960s, and this series was considered the most significant design by the author. It is described in Mark Hill's book, Sklo: Czech Glass Design of the 1950s and 1970s.
