Striking pair of vintage handmade ceramic candlesticks, featuring expressive anthropomorphic figurative shapes. These sculptural candle holders capture the playful and organic spirit of mid-century studio pottery, with textured surfaces and stylised forms that evoke the traditions of modernist French and Italian pottery. Their primitive yet refined aesthetic recalls pieces from Accolay, as well as the sculptural ceramic work associated with Bitossi and Scandinavian studio pottery. Each candlestick is individually crafted with artisanal quality, giving the pair warmth, personality, and a strong decorative presence. Even better: each candlestick has two faces, one on each side, one with a closed or open mouth. This means there are many ways to display these charming figures, either alone or together! Pair of vintage anthropomorphic candlesticks. Handmade studio pottery. Manufacturer not attributed. Material: Ceramic / pottery. Style: Mid-Century Modern / Studio Pottery / Figurative Modernism. Recalling Accolay, Bitossi, and Scandinavian ceramics. Dimensions: 14.5 X 8 cm each. Sculptural anthropomorphic shapes. Suitable for taper candles. Condition. Good vintage condition with wear appropriate to age, consistent with handmade ceramic pieces. Please note there are a few small chips in the glaze; these do not detract from the beauty of these very unique pieces and, if anything, add to the patina. Natural irregularities, glaze variation, and asymmetry are part of the character and artisanal charm. Please examine the photographs carefully for condition details. Tags.
