Oval reliquary frame Napoleon III

Period: ca. Late 19th century. This oval frame with its convex glass is a reliquary or commemorative frame; typically we put the figurines of jesus or creations of strands of hair of an ancestor. The frame itself is made of plaster and has two friezes of rolled acanthus leaves. The friezes have a bronze-coloured colour on a black background. These frames were made in molds at the end of the 19th century. The inside of the back panel is covered with red velvet; you can place an object of your choice there. The back panel is new (it was missing) and is fixed with removable nails for easy access; it is covered with velvet which is tied with velcro straps. Condition: ancient condition with no actual damage. Here and there, the black surface paint has peeled. Some discreet glue stains visible around the glass that has been reattached. New velvet and new back panel. Dimensions: 29 cm high, 24 cm wide, 7 cm deep, 0.65 kg.
