The first steps on the moon! One of the most iconic images from the apollo 11 mission, taken on july 20, 1969, features buzz aldrin and the lunar module. Astronaut neil a. Armstrong, mission commander, skillfully captured this iconic moment using a hasselblad lunar surface camera. Chromogenic photograph from 1969 on paper watermarked "a kodak paper" on the reverse. Buzz aldrin and the lunar module on the surface of the moon during the apollo 11 mission. Photo numbers: as11-40-5931 the apollo 11 mission, launched on july 16, 1969, was a historic and revolutionary space flight that marked the first time that humans set foot on the moon. Led by commander neil a. Armstrong, lunar module pilot edwin "buzz" aldrin, and command module pilot michael collins, the mission achieved the ambitious goal set by president john f. Kennedy in 1961: landing humans on the moon and return them safely to the moon. On july 20, 1969, armstrong and aldrin spent more than two hours exploring the lunar surface, collecting samples and conducting experiments, while collins orbited above in the command module. This original nasa apollo 11 chromogenic photograph measures 20 X 20 cm / 8" X 8" on kodak paper. Original chromogenic photos are the most collectible with "a kodak paper". This paper was discontinued in 1972 by kodak, making them very rare. The camera used on the moon's surface was a modified hasselblad 500 el. The film was a special thin medium format 6 X 6 cm film, so the original developed photos are square.
