A special and characterful design by the Norwegian designer Torbjørn Afdal. This model, also known as the 'Hunter', was designed in 1959 and introduced in production around 1960, standing out in Scandinavian furniture design from this period. The design belongs to the so-called 'Hunting Chairs': armchairs where a wooden frame is combined with a leather seat and back construction. Within this category, the Hunter has its own place. While many Scandinavian armchairs from the 1960s focus on upholstered comfort and softer shapes, Afdal chooses a striking combination of constructive simplicity, rugged materials, and refined design. The wooden frame has a powerful, characteristic line and contrasts beautifully with the generous leather cushion. This cushion is uniquely attached to the frame with leather laces and features distinctive buttons. The combination of the wooden base and the sturdy, richly executed leather gives the armchair its unique appearance. The design looks sturdy and robust without losing its elegant character. Our example is in original, substantial, and complete condition. The beautiful woodwork has been refinished and the leather has also been carefully treated. This has preserved its original character and shows a beautiful, somewhat worn appearance. The natural signs of use and the worn look of the leather add extra character to the armchair and enhance the strong, quirky design. A unique Norwegian design armchair where craftsmanship, material use, and distinctive design come together in a very unique way.
