This coffee table is believed to be produced during the 1960's in the former czechoslovakia. At the time, czech furniture was largely influenced by scandinavian design. This influence is noticeable on this piece as well and the table is not too dissimilar to a coffee table by alvar alto or rud thygesen. Whilst the wood and its purist form is typical for scandinavian design, the black opaxite glass was very popular with czech modernist architects. The table has been designed with careful attention to detail and has a simple, slender design. The shiny black opaxite, which is a type of flat solid milky or coloured glass table top contrasts beautifully with the natural character of the wooden structure and legs. A particularly nice detail is the additional upper trim of wood that protrudes around the tabletop, making the glass top stay safely in its position but also adds certain visual dynamic to the whole piece. The tabletop part is supported by four tubular shape legs. These legs can be easily unscrewed (and screwed back again) which allows the table to be comfortably transported or stored when necessary. The coffee table is in very good original condition with some small scratching on the glass surface and hardly visible little chip in one corner. There is some minor wear and tear on the wooden parts gained over the years.
