This peculiar object was originally designed as a clothes hanger to be used by miners in the changing room (salle des pendus) of the mines of coals at the beginning of the XX century. Every day at the beginning and end of their shift, miners would go into the changing room and wear their work uniform or change into normal clothes. Each miner had his own hanger with a chain attached to pull the hanger close to the ceiling where the air was dryer to let clothes dry during the shift. The hanger has five hooks and a central square tray. The wrought iron hanger adds the perfect industrial style to any room and it is easy to style and use in lots of different ways – from hanging plants, to holding candles, from hanging jackets to serving as a towels rack. In excellent vintage condition. There is minor surface rust as expected with wrought iron objects of this age. It’s part of the character and really is very charming! Height 26.8 cm (31.8 cm including the bottom hook); width 24 cm.
