Started a year earlier, georges mathieu completed in 1967 the production of a series of posters for air france, whose initiative belongs to pierre sautet, deputy commercial director of air france. This unique meeting between art and advertising culminated in the presentation of the posters on october 26, 1967 at the museum of modern art in the city of paris. They were a huge success: there were dozens of exhibitions organized in france and then around the world, and more than a million posters sold. After studying literature, law and philosophy at the university of lille, georges mathieu, born in boulogne-sur-mer (pas-de-calais) on january 27, 1921, began painting in 1942. He died on 10 june 2012 in boulogne-billancourt. His work is currently present in at least seventy-nine museums and public collections. Founder of lyrical abstraction, pioneer of action painting, performance, dripping, gigantism, speed and risk, the early inspiration of street art.
