Description
Very beautiful old engraving representing barbe island, taken from the left bank of the saône, engraved by piringer bénédickt (1780-1827), after a painting by pierre nicolas wery. Engraving in black under a mat with an old gold and light blue border and showing some stains and gaps. It represents the abbey seen from the left bank of the saône, as well as men and women walking on the other bank. Here a scene of life is represented, with finesse in the execution of the characters as well as the architecture and vegetation, by the engraver. It was printed by lamoureux, a printer active between 1830 and 1870, rue saint-jean de beauvais number 12 paris. It has a pretty bowl on the side and, apart from a few small brown spots and dirt, it is very decorative and deserves a little cleaning for purists. Engraving size l 75cm X h 54 cm size fits everywhere: l 77 cm h 57 cm.
