Angelo Mangiarotti "Barbados" ashtray for Danese Milano, 1960s. Enameled ceramic, discontinued brown finish. New old stock, perfect condition with original box. 1960s, the "Barbados" is the most enduring piece to emerge from their ceramic collaboration — and one of the most quietly persuasive objects in the Danese catalogue. Its form is almost irreducibly simple: a low cylinder receives a concentric ring, and the geometry does everything. No decoration, no rhetoric. The result is an object that communicates stillness before it communicates function. Danese, founded in Milan in 1957 by Bruno Danese and Jacqueline Vodoz, built its identity around exactly this kind of rigour — commissioning designers to reduce objects to their essential form without sacrificing warmth. The Barbados is a perfect example: minimal in conception, generous in presence. This example is new old stock in the discontinued brown finish — a colour no longer available in current production — and comes complete with its original Danese Milano box. Never used, in perfect condition. A rare opportunity to acquire both the vintage edition and the documentation of its time.
