Superb senufo carved wooden statue, measuring 24 cm (including the base), 24 cm without the base, from the korhogo region of ivory coast. This feminine sculpture, with clean and harmonious lines, presents an upright posture with arched arms and characteristic scarifications on the chest and abdomen. Her delicately sculpted face is topped with a pointed hairstyle, typical of senufo art. Senufo sculptures, made by experienced craftsmen, are often associated with the initiation rites of the poro, a secret society that governs the transmission of spiritual and cultural knowledge within the community. They can also be used as objects of prestige or protection. Estimated period: probably mid-20th century (1940-1960), due to the style and natural patina of the wood. Condition: good general condition with a beautiful patina of time and some traces of wear consistent with the age of the piece. Light wear is visible on the upper part of the front, without compromising the overall aesthetics. The photos are an integral part of the description. Please feel free to examine them carefully.
