Hydria in terracotta from Southern Italy made around 330 BC. The decoration was painted by Primato, a Greek artist who worked during the Lucanian period. It is distinguished by elaborate vegetal decorations with a recurrence of palmettes and scrolls, as well as the frequent use of red pigment. This piece, composed of three fragments, is typical of the forms found in this period. The main decoration depicts a young woman standing near a pillar adorned with palmettes and dressed in an himation. The decoration on the back and shoulder is embellished with palmettes and vegetal motifs referenced in the painter's repertoire. A sublime piece from the period, fully restored in our workshop. Provenance: Collection E.S Berlin since 1994.
