Magnificent fireplace mirror of very large dimensions: 182 cm X 118 cm. This, coupled with the narrowness of its uprights, gives it a rather impressive luminosity. As for the period gold leaf gilding, quite pale, it has something very noble. We note some retouching. The frame is in gilded stucco and offers pretty fluted uprights interspersed with ribbons. The top of the mirror is a trumeau, with its full side parts decorated with gilded rosettes. A very detailed medallion crowns the top of the mirror, decorated with a vase and flowers. It is topped with a ribbon and surrounded by two large garlands of very finely carved gleams. Finally, we notice the very successful fresco of piastres at the very top, which with its "grotesque" motif (repeated), and its finishes at the ends, closes this impressive mirror. The mirror itself is also original, said to be mercury (in fact tin since the very beginning of the 19th century) that is to say with a beautiful depth and a warm and almost cottony reflection compared to a simple modern mirror. It was cut to measure for this mirror, with the upper curves and, above all, entirely beveled... Even around the medallion (see photos)! We detect pitting and other minor defects on the mirror, inherent to this type of mirrors and which add charm more than anything else. The reflection remains clear and very bright. The back is paneled, therefore well protected. We also note retouching of the gilding and tiny incidents to the stucco, as always, but nothing really notable. In the end, it is in superb general condition and will embellish any room. Especially when the sun comes to strike this so elegant gilding!.
