An old French washing trough made of terracotta dating from the 19th century and originating from the Auvergne region, France. The trough is handmade from terracotta and features a simple rounded shape with a thick rolled edge. The horizontal marks from the manufacturing process are still clearly visible around the exterior. The terracotta has a dark, patinated surface with lighter areas, mineral deposits, and traces of many years of use, giving it a particularly rustic appearance. At the bottom, there is a drainage opening with an old wooden stopper. There is some loss of terracotta around this opening, as shown in the photos. The trough is in good antique condition and, importantly, has no cracks. There are scratches, marks, surface wear, and other irregularities consistent with its age and original use. Originally a practical household item, it now serves as an unusual decorative piece and can also be used as a planter or garden container.
