Description
The wooden sculpture was created during the colonial period in africa. These sculptures usually depict european settlers (e.g. Government officials, doctors, soldiers, technicians) or the europeanized african middle class. Characters are often characterized by recurring elements, such as colonial helmets, suits, official uniforms or tobacco pipes. They are painted in bright colors or polished with vegetable paints. Colonial statues gained international popularity after world war II and decolonization. This particular piece is preserved in very good, original condition.
