A vase from the Ząbkowice glassworks, designed by Jan Sylwester Drosd in the 1970s, is an example of Polish pressed glass inspired by the modernist movement. The cylindrical form is wrapped in a relief decor over the entire surface, referencing the geometric 'envelope' motif recognizable for Drosd's series. The saturated amber-yellow shade of soda glass is highlighted by a shiny, smooth surface, emphasized by the wall thickness and pronounced, tactile texture. The lack of additional color accents supports the minimalist synthesis of form and function. The surface, disciplined by the regularity of pressing, gains a rhythmic, three-dimensional light effect typical of both brutalism and the utilitarian glass production of the PRL era. The vase is in very good condition – with no visible losses, cracks, or signs of repair, and does not show signs of wear typical for this period. This vase speaks the language of Polish modernism of the 1970s: the structural rigor of the form combines with the decorativeness of the material, and the embossed geometric motifs evoke the rhythm and repetition of everyday life of those years. The amber glass surface plays with light in a way that recalls home interiors of the PRL era – lacking unnecessary opulence, but also showing the craftsmanship courage with which design of the time could give new poetry to a simple form. The smoothness of the glass is balanced by the tactile relief – an object that invites not only to look but also to touch, reminding that in objects of those years every detail had its rational justification. This vase can be displayed on a raw solid wood table, a concrete countertop, or a minimalist shelf, where the relief pattern will bring out the plasticity of the yellow. It pairs well with other glass and ceramic design elements from the 1960s and 1970s, as well as – in contrast – with modern dark steel or matte stone. In spaces inspired by mid-century modern, as well as strictly collector's vintage interiors, it co-creates a harmonious composition of graphics, light, and glass material. No specific care recommendations are provided; HSG Ząbkowice pressed glass is characterized by durability and resistance to dirt, but it is recommended to wash with a soft cloth using mild detergents, without strong abrasive agents.
