Massimo vitali is an italian photographer, famous among other things for his panoramas of italian beaches. His favorite activity: observing the human species in leisure situations. Since 1994, he has always followed the same ritualized process: he locates a densely populated public space – beach, nightclub or winter sports resort –; equips himself with a camera equipped with a special wooden camera (deardorff), offering a great depth of field; sets up on a seven-meter-high stand to take his photographs; and finally prints them on large format, "a little light", which gives them a milky appearance and increases their luminosity. His work is collected in museums around the world, such as the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Musée National d'Art Moderne and Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid.
