Painting "Foret de Rhoniers à Ouassadou" by Gaston Fontaine, 1952

Superb oil on wood 60 X 50 cm (outside frame) signed, located "senegalese landscape" painted in 1952. Born in tours in 1907, died in 1999, gaston fontaine is an africanist and orientalist artist listed in lynne thornton's book "africanist painters". He made three trips to africa in 1937, 1938 and in 1948 to senegal and guinea. He exhibited at the grand palais in paris in 1940 in the fine arts section of the france salon overseas. Gaston fontaine was also exhibited at the independents' fair in 1931 and 1932.
