Kuruma tansu sideboard

Kuruma tansu - XVIII century - Japanese cabinet on wheels. They were used to store personal belongings and the wheels made it easy to move them. These wheeled storage pieces were banned in Japan from the 19th century. There were so many families rolling their belongings down the street during a fire that the road was impassable for firefighters. Original material. Tenon and mortise construction. Beautiful patina.
