Painted Folk Art Bridal Cabinet 1851

An extraordinary antique pine bridal cabinet dating from 1851. This cabinet is simply designed but beautifully painted in a fresh blue with floral and religious decorations in the panels. The previous owner's wedding date is also painted on the crest. Considering its age, this example is still in good condition, though there are naturally some minor signs of wear. These include sporadic old woodworm marks, which have of course been checked and treated, and the paint is somewhat worn in places. All in all, a very characteristic piece. The interior of the cabinet consists of a shelf and two rods. The cabinet still has the original working lock and key. It was customary in the past to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were later placed in a state room on the farm, which was only rarely used for distinguished guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history.
