ENNIO COCCHI, PAINTING ON TWO SIDES, OIL ON PANEL. ON ONE SIDE IT DEPICTS A TUSCAN LANDSCAPE, ON THE OTHER A STILL LIFE. DIMENSIONS: 38 × 28 cm / 50 × 40 cm. ENNIO COCCHI. At a very young age, he attended the workshop of the engraver Emilio Mazzoni Zarini and, in 1929, enrolled at the Istituto Statale d'Arte di Porta Romana, where he was a student of the painter Gianni Vagnetti. He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1937. In 1940, the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Florence acquired two of his works, and in 1951, one of his canvases was sent to New York for the school of the church Nostra Signora del Carmelo. In 1955, he created a fresco for the municipality of Florence depicting the Virgin and Child in the tabernacle of Via del Campuccio. In 1960, after his marriage, he settled in Antella, a hamlet of Bagno a Ripoli (Florence), where he moved his studio. Maintaining his reserved nature and his desire to stay away from the temptations of the market, he continued to exhibit. In 1962, he organised a retrospective exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts (forty-eight works presented), which received favourable critical acclaim. In 1963, this same Academy offered him a teaching position, but Cocchi refused in order to fully dedicate himself to painting. In 1965, he organised several solo exhibitions, and one of his works, titled "Feeding the Hungry, " exhibited in Viareggio, even earned him a gold medal from Pope Paul VI. Although he is best known for his still lifes and oil landscapes, it is worth noting that he also dedicated himself to portraiture and employed various techniques throughout his artistic career, from engraving to etching, lithography to drawing with pencil and ink. His works are included in numerous private collections, not only in Italy but also in France and Germany, as well as in two national Polish museums (a self-portrait in Warsaw and a n).
