Ceramic pitcher Jean Marais (1913-1998)

2743 - from the 1970's, in good condition, this vallauris ceramic handle pitcher with a satin brown cover signed in hollow on the basis of the famous multifaceted artist and ceramist jean marais (1913-1998), companion of jean cocteau from 1937 to 1963. No cracks or splinters. Height 228 mm X 170 mm with handle. Weight 940 g. Neat and tracked shipment. Retired near grasse in the alpes-maritimes, this immense actor was introduced to pottery following the acquisition of a brand new kiln and then took filming lessons in vallauris, a city he frequented in particular during the 1950s when he accompanied jean cocteau during the festivities organized in honor of picasso. There he met nini and jo pasquali, the latter potter in this town. He went from pottery to modeling and then to sculpture with talent and passion. He opened his first gallery there in 1975 before coming to live there in 1980. He then opened a second gallery in paris in 1976 then a 3rd in megève in 1981 and a last one in biarritz in 1985. He was named honorary citizen of vallauris in 1998. A space, dedicated to this immense artist, was opened in june 2023. It is located in its former gallery.
