This armchair, which changed the history of upholstered furniture, is the result of an intuition of afra and tobia scarpa. Designed in 1969, based on the new possibilities offered by the molding of polyurethane foam to generate an unconventional expansion. The couple was heavily influenced by tobia's father, carlo scarpa, a venetian architect and designer. The design of the soriana armchair has earned them numerous awards such as the compasso d'oro in 1970, for their design of the soriana armchair. Their design work consists of architecture and everyday household items, including interior design, furniture, clothing, art glass. This armchair consists of 100% recycled pet upholstery or cotton wool as well as a painted metal structure. The particularity of this chair is that it does not need internal support due to the metal structure that encircles it like a vice.
