Painted Folk Art Bridal Chest

Beautiful painted bridal chest from germany, large size. The chest is painted in a dark blue colour with decorated panels on the sides, front and lid. On these panels the tree of life is depicted, which grows up from the chalice of the water of life. Core motif for folk art from that time. The whole is in a neat condition, what can be noticed are some old woodworm tracks in the bottom of the chest. These have of course been checked and treated. In the past it was customary to give bridal furniture like this as a gift to the couple at a wedding. This furniture was later placed on the farm in a show room that was only rarely used for high-ranking visitors or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history. This copy dates from around 1850. 68cm high, 114cm wide, 64cm deep.
