Antique Swat Valley Bridal Chest

This antique Swat Valley bridal chest (Ghurra) dates from the 19th century and originates from the Hindu Kush region in present-day northern Pakistan. Such chests were traditionally crafted for weddings to store the bride's dowry. Typical for this region are the four distinctive corner posts topped with artfully turned finials.
