Japanese-style golden bamboo screen with cherry blossom panel

Period: ca. Late 19th century. This fireplace screen is a beautiful decorative element. The structure and feet are composed of hollow bamboo stems that have been gilded. The upper and lower sides are decorated with three horizontal stems arranged in a pyramidal fashion. This kind of bamboo work is inspired by the japanese aesthetic very fashionable at the end of the 19th century and the movement is known as japonisme. The inner panel has been renewed on both sides with a cherry blossom pattern on a pale blue background and gold accents; it is not fabric but textured wallpaper. The sides were finished with an ecru braided braid with gold accents to match the flowers. Status: good. New panel. Normal gilding wear by the age of the object. One of the bamboo stems is missing its closing plate (see photo). Dimensions: 114 cm high, 54 cm wide, 35 cm deep, 3 kg.
